Please join us for an interesting evening featuring T’Che Caver and our own Mike Smith.
T’Che Caver was selected to attend and was sent by VAA Chapter 29 to the EAA Air Academy at AirVenture 2017. T’Che will give us a report on his experience at the Air Academy and at AirVenture. T’che is sixteen years old, and a senior at Washington High School; he and his family live in Fremont, California. Besides aviation, T’Che takes great interest in science and enjoys studying topics such as computers (both hardware and software) and physics.
T’Che is quite athletic and has achieved black belts in the Kung Fu and Tae Kwon Do martial arts. Complementing his martial arts background, he is the team captain of his high school’s varsity wrestling team. T’Che also enjoys mountain biking in competitions as well as riding just for fun. T’Che is a member of the Boy Scouts of America and is on track to get his Eagle Scout badge next year. A participant in Young Eagles since he was eight years old, T’Che says, “Though many of the activities I have participated in have changed over the course of my life, a major constant for me has been aviation.“
Last month, Mike Smith and his daughter Katie flew their beautiful Cessna 172 to the East Coast, visiting friends and relatives along the way. One of the challenges was to negotiate the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area Special Flight Rules Area. This Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ) has existed since February 10, 2003, around the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan Area to restrict air traffic near Washington, D.C. Mike will give us a report on what it’s like to fly in this airspace.
We look forward to seeing you on September 14th for what should be a quite interesting evening. And, as always, bring a friend!
Please note: In July, the VAA Chapter 29 monthly meeting would normally be on July 13th has been replaced by this special presentation.
